About Us

Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection District Was formed in 1951 by combining both Platteville and Gilcrest volunteer fire departments into a Fire District.

Our headquarter station is located in the central part of fire district in Platteville at 202 Main Street.  Our second station is located at 14679 CR 42 in Gilcrest.  The District is staffed 24/7 with a Battalion Chief, four firefighters and a paramedic at our Platteville Station and three firefighters and a paramedic at our Gilcrest Station.  Our administrative staff includes the Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, Training Chief, EMS Chief, Administrative Manager, Administrative Assistant, Fire Prevention Specialist, and Fleet Maintenance Mechanics and are available Monday-Friday.

We are a predominantly agricultural community covering 144 square miles.  A large percentage of our tax revenue is generated from oil and gas production and processing facilities.

The District requires all firefighters to be Firefighter I and NREMT certified. We also provide ALS services and transports.  We are proud to have on staff members that are certified as Firefighter II, Fire Officer I and II, HazMat Operations, HazMat Technician, Paramedic, Ice Rescue, State Proctor, Driver Operator (Aerial and Pumper), Wild Land, Fire Instructor, Fire Inspector, Car Seat Technician and CPR Instructor.

In our fleet we have:  Three engines, one ladder truck, two ambulances, three brush trucks, two water tenders, a light and air truck, water rescue boat, command vehicle, training/maintenance vehicles and two staff vehicles.
