2017 Awards Banquet



On January 28th, 2018, current members, past members, board members and their families celebrated the successes of 2017.  One of the biggest recognitions of the evening belonged to Tony Riofrio who spent 14 years with the department and served the district as a volunteer, part-timer, and full-time as a firefighter and lieutenant.  We are thankful for your dedication and service and wish you the best of luck in your next venture!

The department also recognized Dan Durkee, Ward Watson, and Tyler Austin for achieving 5 years of service.  Keith Heater was congratulated for achieving 10 years of service.  Lastly, Danny Bass celebrated his 15th year with the district!  Congratulations gentlemen!

There were several awards handed out to fine men and women who went above and beyond in 2017.  The first award was for the most training hours in 2017.  This year's winner was Andy Wazny! 

The next award was the EMS Provider of the Year.  This award is given to a PGFPD member who has displayed outstanding dedication to providing high quality EMS care for the residents of the District.  This year's winner was Dante Frascona!

The next award was the Firefighter of the Year.  This award was given to a PGFPD member who best exemplifies the positive characteristics of a member of the fire service and has performed his/her duties as a firefighter at an extremely high level over the past year.  This year's winner was Joe Bechina!

Next was the Leadership Award.  This award was given to a PGFPD member who has displayed outstanding leadership for the Fire District over the past year.  This year's winner was Herb George!

The final award was the Appreciation Award.  This award honors someone for their outstanding contribution to our organization. This individual has given selflessly of themselves in support of the Fire District and the community.  This year we had a tie and the winners were Jeff Cogburn and Chad Greene!

There was also an appreciation award given to the firefighters of the Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection District who provided exemplary service to the Frederick Firestone Fire Protection District during a house explosion call in 2017.  A special thanks to the town of Firestone for this plaque.   

Lastly, a special thanks to our administration for making the event happen, to the PGFPD Honor Guard for their efforts at the event, and to Frederick Firestone Fire Protection District and Front Range Fire Rescue for sending crews to cover our district.
