2016 Year End Banquet



2016 was another fantastic year for the members of the Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection Family.  On January 21st, 2017, current members, past members, board members and their families all got together to celebrate the successes of 2016.  The department recognized 2 members who retired as volunteers, Brian Loper and Chris Shannon.  The department also recognized Nick Loper, Daniel Leonardo, Robert Pechak, and Toby Wheeler for achieving 5 years of service.  Andy Hein, Daniel Bass, Travis Homyak, Tony Riofrio, and Randy Rutheford were all congratulated for achieving 10 years of service.  Not to be outdone, Russ Kissler celebrated his 20th year with the district!  Lastly, Brian Bostron received a standing ovation for his highly decorated 35 years of service with the department!

There were several awards handed out to fine men and women who went above and beyond in 2016.  The first award was the EMS Provider of the Year.  This award is given to a PGFPD member who has displayed outstanding dedication to providing high quality EMS care for the residents of the District.  This year's winner was Randy Greenbaum!

The next award was the Firefighter of the Year.  This award was given to a PGFPD member who best exemplifies the positive characteristics of a member of the fire service and has performed his/her duties as a firefighter at an extremely high level over the past year.  This year's winner was Chad Greene!

Next was the Leadership Award.  This award was given to a PGFPD member who has displayed outstanding leadership for the Fire District over the past year.  This year's winner was Jolene Schneider!

The final award was the Appreciation Award.  This award honors someone for their outstanding contribution to our organization. This individual has given selflessly of themselves in support of the Fire District and the community.  This year we had a tie and the winners were Director Gary Homyak and Brian Bostron!

There was a surprise appreciation award given to Chief Dan Durkee by the Board of Directors for his selfless sacrifices, passion for the fire service, and extremely hard work dedicated to making the Platteville Gilcrest Fire Protection so great.  As a tribute to his idol, Chief Durkee dedicated this award to to his beautiful mother.

As a final token of the true backbone to any successful organization, each member hand delivered a long-stem rose with a special tribute to their significant other.
