Department Information

Platteville/Gilcrest Fire Protection District Was formed in 1951 by combining both Platteville and Gilcrest volunteer fire departments into a Fire District.

Our headquarter station is located in the central part of fire district in Platteville at 303 Main Street.  Our second station is located in Gilcrest.  The District is staffed 24/7 with three firefighters at our Platteville Station and two firefighters at our Gilcrest Station.  Our administrative staff include the Fire Chief, Training Captain, Administrator, Office Manager, Fire Prevention Technician and a Maintenance Technician and are available Monday-Friday.

We are a predominantly agricultural community covering 144 square miles.  A large percentage of our tax revenue is generated from oil and gas production and processing facilities.

The District requires all firefighters to be Firefighter I and NREMT certified. We provide BLS services while our ALS support comes from Banner Health Paramedic Services.  We are proud to have on staff members that are certified as Firefighter II, Fire Officer I and II, HazMat Operations, HazMat Technician, Ice Rescue, State Proctor, Driver Operator, Wild Land, Fire Instructor, Fire Inspector, Car Seat Technician and CPR Instructor.

In our fleet we have:  Three engines, 1 training engine, 3 brush trucks, 2 tenders, 1 heavy rescue, 1 light air truck, command vehicle, investigation vehicle and 2 staff vehicles.
